The Gondoliers

Visit Venice and Barataria to reveal the identity of the missing Prince

A tale of Two Gondoliers who discover that one of them is a Prince, stowed away at birth and kept in hiding. But a case of mistaken identity between the two means that both Gondoliers must reign jointly as King until the identity of the true King is discovered.

This excellent collaboration by Gilbert and Sullivan, brought to life by the incredible cast of Sale Gilbert and Sullivan Society, is an evening of enjoyment not to be missed and promises to leave you with feelings of pleasure!

Bobbie has lots of experience in the world of amateur theatre. In G&S he has played most of the “Patter Parts” as well as other roles. His involvement with Sale G&S began in 2013, when he was asked to help in the chorus of their production of The Yeomen of the Guard. Since then, he has been a regular member of the society and taken several principal roles. During his “Amateur Life” he has been called upon to Direct plays, pantomimes and G&S Operas and has a wealth of knowledge in the theatre world.

Tony fell in love with G&S whilst at school. He discovered Sale G&S society in 1985, and has been a member ever since. His first role with the society was the ‘echo’ in Trial by jury, his first principal role was as Samuel in Pirates and he has played many other roles during that time. His most important role to date has been as society chairman, a role he has held for just over 20 years. He’s beginning to think no one else wants the job! Tony thoroughly enjoys appearing in the G&S operas, and intends to carry on doing so for many years to come.

Janice joined Sale G&S in 1988 for a production of The Yeomen of the Guard as a member of the chorus, and the only job she hasn’t done in the intervening years since is Chairman! She loves Sullivan’s beautiful melodies and Gilbert’s witty words and enjoys the whole collaborative effort as the group brings a show from page to stage.

Helen first joined Sale G&S in 2003 for our International Gilbert & Sullivan Festival production of The Gondoliers at Buxton Opera House. Since then, she has become our Principal Soprano and has taken the lead role in most of the operas. She also has a very strong mezzo soprano voice and has performed many of these roles too! She has also agreed to become our Director since our move to The Lowry Studio in recent years and her innovative and enjoyable productions are a joy to take part in.

Sing. Laugh. Perform.

Join our cast and crew for a whale of a time.

We love to welcome new members to the society. Whether you have a keen love for G&S, or never sang it before, we are sure you will enjoy the beautiful notes of Sullivan and the witty lyrics of Gilbert as you join us to perform these wonderful works.

If performing is not for you there are many other ways to get involved. Why not turn your hand to scenery building or costumes; become a Patron; assist with lighting, sound, stage managing and much, much more.
